The Carrabassett Valley is an absolutely astonishing locale for mountain bikers.
Here’s the view from about 1/2 hour away on the highway.
It’s got big terrain!
The highlight of the ride I did was the Oak Knoll section. It’s a 3+ mile descent with about 700′ vertical drop.
They made some good use of the natural rock. This slab surprises the riders with a 2+ vertical drop-off at the end.
The trail gnomes were clearly super busy. (Actually, this small town has a professional trail crew, and it shows.)
This is a view from a vista half-way up the climb. The trail is across the valley in the Bigelow Preserve, but the views seen are towards the south (the ski hill) and the range to the west.
This next one is the actual ski hill, Sugarloaf. It’s the largest ski resort in the eastern USA, with 154 runs. It’s the only place to ever hold a World Cup downhill ski race outside of Europe.
Very cool home-made rack!
